Little Tokyo Surprise

A couple weeks ago, the S man and I took a short metro ride to Little Tokyo. First it was Marukai!!! One of the biggest Japanese food specialty stores in downtown. They sell everything you want, and tons you don't. The seafood assortment blew me away. So many kinds of fresh fish with heads and eyeballs in tact. The best/worst part was the snack isle! There were bags with drawings of cute little anchovies swimming around, care free. But look closely in the bag and you'll discover 4 different sizes of anchovy "chips" salted. There is also a kids size snack pack. Next time you go see a new release, take an anchovy bag. The tiny silver eye balls will be eyeing you as you stuff your mouth, while the unadventurous people eat buttered popcorn.

Next stop was Wurstkuche. (not pronounced: worst cuch-e). We walked up one block form Marukai and saw a bangin bar with dark lights, dark walls and dark people. We walked past looking for a bratwurst stand that offers veggie options. We walked past a line of 25 people and to our surprise......... it was Wurstuche, purveyor of exotic filled sausages. So many fun surprises on the menu but the Exotic section was worth reviewing. Highlights: Buffalo, Beef, Pork with chipotle peppers, Duck and Bacon with Jalapeno Peppers, and Alligator and Pork Smoked Andouille Sausage. Sean had the Rattlesnake and Rabbit with Jalapeno peppers and I tried the Vegetarian Italian. I have to say it was the best veggie dog I have ever eaten.

This was a cute little graffiti kitty we saw on the way to Wurstkuche.
